How to plan the perfect outdoor wedding

Having an outdoor wedding is like something from a fairytale, with the birds chirping, leaves blowing in the wind and the unity between you and your significant other. It’s a really special idea for any big day, so we’ve put together a guide on how to plan the perfect outdoor wedding.

Get the right season

Obviously, if you want to hold your wedding outside you’ll need to have the right season. You don’t want you and your guests to be shivering in the rain all day. The height of summer may be too hot, so somewhere in the spring is usually the ideal time.

Make the most of nature

Nature will be your backdrop for this one, so make the most of it. Choose a venue that has stunning views – beautiful trees and flowers make a nice setting for the photos, and marquees are very popular. If you want to add extras, keep with the natural theme with garlands of roses, fairy lights and petals on the ground.

Have a backup plan

British weather can be unpredictable, to say the least, so always have a backup plan. Marquees, tents, umbrellas, anything you can find which will shelter you from potential weather. If things get really bad, ask your venue if the wedding can be moved inside if needed.

Temperature control

Ensure all your guests know your wedding will be held outside so they can bring anything they may need. Prepare a jacket in case of potential temperature drops. If it’s a summer wedding, you may find yourself getting too hot so prepare yourself with deodorant, a mini fan and oil blotting sheets. Consider having fans in the aisles to keep your guests refreshed, although be aware they may be noisy. If you’re going to a venue, ask the staff for advice or if they have anything special they usually use for an outdoor wedding.

In the hustle and bustle of nature, it may be difficult for guests to hear the all-important speeches. Consider having microphones and speakers so your voices can be elevated. This way, everyone will be able to understand and enjoy.

If you’ll be serving a sit-down meal, the best idea is to have it inside the marquee. This means guests can enjoy their meal away from the weather. Tables can then be moved away ready for the reception.

Make sure your guests stay comfortable throughout the day. Have plenty of water available and consider putting blankets on the grass for people to sit on. If the reception will also be outside, put heaters and rugs around to keep people warm.
