Alexandra House is proud to be part of The Venues Collection, who operate a social purpose framework to make sure the impact we have on the world around us is a positive one.

We welcome thousands of guests through our doors every year so we have a responsibility to ensure The Venues Collection has a clear social purpose to better our planet and all the people we interact with.

We are more than just a collection of venues. This is why we created our Future First Charter, a framework to deliver our social purpose.

The charter outlines our commitments in 3 areas – each with its own measurable goals. Our commitments are integrally linked with our 3 brand pillars of great food, great service, great space. These areas are People Pledge, Food Focus & Enriching Environments.

People Pledge

We believe in inclusive working environments, we take pride in bringing the best out of people offering opportunities for everyone no matter which area you work in within our business. Everyone matters. We take pride in every interaction with our guests from an initial phone call to visiting our venues. All our guests are our priority.

What we will achieve:

  • People development is at the core of what we do, by the end of 2021 we will have 10 apprentices or kick start employees in our business from all levels, across each venue
  • Each of our venues will have at least one person who is accredited in Mental Health First Aid by the end of 2021
  • By the end of 2021, we are committed to improving the diversity of our current workforce by 2%. Read more about diversity and inclusion from our parent company Compass Group UK & Ireland here
  • Our group guest feedback score will be continually at 4 and above from 2021 onwards

Food Focus

‘Food Focus’ means that we put food at the heart of what we do. From careful consideration of our supply chain through to the diner experience, each aspect supports eating better for the environment, our health, animal welfare and support local communities.

What we will achieve:

  • By the end of 2021, all venues will have a system in place to measure and manage food waste, with a clear target of reduction for 2022
  • All the dairy produce, whole eggs and meat in our menus will be 80% British by the end of 2021
  • There will be no plastic straws, bottles and plastic stirrers in the business by 2021 and our cling film usage will be reduced by 50%
  • By 1st October 2021, all of our menus will demonstrate complete transparency around allergen content through industry-leading technology

Enriching Environments

For all; For our people, an enriching place of work; For our guests, flexible, sustainable spaces to meet, sleep and celebrate; For the planet, considered actions and activities to support the wellbeing & future of our world.

  • Every one of our venues is a safe place to work and our culture of safety for all is paramount. Our measure of this includes our EHO scores to 5 for all venues by the end of 2021
  • Every venue will have a walking, running & cycling route by the end of 2021 for guests & colleagues to enjoy as part of a healthier lifestyle
  • Each venue team participates in our “wellbeing at work” initiatives. Please ask us for more information
  • Our venue is supporting a local charity, Prospect Hospice. We aim to support them by raising funds for the charity, who provide end of life care to the people of Swindon and North East Wiltshire. We also support our wider group charity, Hospitality in Action, who offer help and advice to anyone who works in the hospitality industry
  • We will support our local communities through involvement in local initiatives and activities throughout the year

The Venues Collection recognise the risks posed to the planet from climate change and that the consequences of this change are being felt by people all around the world, that’s why, as part of our Future First Charter we created ‘Meetings for Change’.

For all our meeting, conference and events

We believe in using fresh, seasonal products
We aim that 80% of ingredients on our menus are to be British grown. All the chicken and milk we serve is Red Tractor assured.

We believe in the power of plants
We offer plant-forward menus, with a choice of great-tasting alterative proteins.

We believe in zero waste
Whatever we’re cooking for your meeting or event our approach is root-to-stem, nose-to-tail. We use recycled and reusable packaging wherever we can.

We believe in ethical sourcing
Our teas and coffees come from responsible suppliers. Our chocolate is Fairtrade and Rainforest Alliance certified.

We believe in protecting our planet
Our climate promise is to reach Net Zero by 2030
