8 Red Flags To Look For When Finding a Venue

Finding an event space can be daunting. There’s a lot to think about and you want to ensure everything runs smoothly. You don’t want to end up tied into something which isn’t right. So, we’ve put together a list of eight red flags to look for when finding your perfect venue.

1. Unfriendly Staff

There’s nothing worse than people who are rude or unfriendly. You should be able to get a feel of the staff and customer service when calling a venue for more information. If they come off as unhelpful from the offset, then chances are things aren’t going to get any better. On your night, you want people around you who are going to encourage the night to go smoothly. If the staff are unhelpful, it will affect the night no matter how good the venue is.

2. Dirty or untidy

If you are able to go and view the venues before booking them, do so. Things may appear differently than they are featured online. If the venue is at all dirty or untidy, this is a massive red flag. A venue should pride itself in being immaculate for its guests. A venue’s tidiness is a good reflection of the rest of the service so ensure you check over this.

3. Inaccessible location

Your venue doesn’t have to be in the middle of a busy city centre, but if it’s somewhere inaccessible, it will affect the turnout. Choose a place that’s close to the motorway and travel links to ensure people have an easy time getting there.

4. No parking

Similarly, when your guests arrive, they want to head inside to enjoy themselves. They don’t want to be worrying about the parking or having to walk miles to get to the venue. Ensure the location has ample parking for all your delegates.

5. Overpriced

A high price doesn’t necessarily mean quality. It could also mean you end up blowing your budget on the venue and not being able to provide quality entertainment and catering. Make sure you’re not overpaying for something you can source more reasonably elsewhere.

6. No catering

The food is one of the main focuses during an event. Your delegates will be looking forward to it regardless of if it’s a light buffet or a lavish meal. If your venue doesn’t cater, it could be a problem. When hunting, ensure you check that the venue is able to provide food for those with dietary requirements. You don’t want anyone in your party going hungry.

7. Wrong size

Obviously, you need a space that’s going to be big enough for your delegates. They need to be able to be comfortable, move around and talk. If there will be dancing, you’ve obviously got to factor this in. You don’t want a venue that’s too small but similarly, you don’t want too much space for only a few people. This sets off the wrong vibe for the night.

8. No Wi-Fi

The majority of people have internet plans on their phones but having Wi-Fi for everyone to access is a nice touch. It means people are free to upload photos and videos of the event. This is important if the event is for something like a company launch. If your venue doesn’t have Wi-Fi for everyone to access, it might be worth considering somewhere that does.
